Diary 2012 – Week 04
I took the dogs for a 2hr walk on the east side of Winter Hill this afternoon and on the way managed to get a couple of pictures when the sun struggled through the clouds.
Diary 2012 – Week 02
Sunsets seem to be like buses at the moment, none for ages then three come at once. I must say though that I didn’t expect one today as it was drizzling rain when the dogs and I set off for our afternoon walk through the Terraced Gardens at Rivington.
Diary 2011 – Week 48
In spite of occasional flurries of very cold hail, the weather wasn’t too bad today, so I took Brett, Molly and Sam for a walk on Winter Hill.
Diary 2011 – Week 46
I went for a stroll this afternoon with my dogs that I hadn’t done for a couple of years, so I thought it was time to do it again. It’s a little under three miles and a nice gentle stroll that encircled Higher Rivington Reservoir.
Diary 2011 – Week 45
I was walking across the moors of Winter Hill when I came upon the cairns on top of Two Lads Hill. They reminded me of a story by the late Arthur C Clarke, “The Sentinel” that the film “2001: Space Odessy” was based on.
Diary 2011 – Week 44
I had two and a half hours of strolling across Smithills Moor with my two dogs Brett and Sam this afternoon. We set off from the car park on Winter Hill and strolled via Holdens Farm and Gilligants Farm before taking the old Coal Pit Road onto the moor.

This is a short selection of pictures that I took during my walks in September and October that didn’t make it into any of my posts but which nevertheless I thought you might like to see.
Diary 2011 – Week 19
I had a very pleasant walk over Smithills Moor this afternoon with Brett and Sam. Six miles and 4-1/2hr of tennis ball throwing – Brett and Sam did about 12ml chasing them.
Diary 2011 – Week 18
I took a walk through Wilderswood today, not having been there for some months and curious to see how the woods looked after the mass tree felling operation last February and March.
Winter Hill and Smithills Moor
This was an 8 miles walk on a sunny but extremely windy afternoon, during which I traversed a great deal of moorland and visited a remote reservoir that once fed one of the local mills in a bygone age.
Diary 2011 – Week 14
I had a very gentle two miles stroll with my friend JohnB (plus my two dogs Brett and Sam and our temporary addition Daisy) and on the way managed to find a couple of potential new pictures.
