Following the Witton Weavers Way

The Witton Weavers Way is an old packhorse route that traverses about 33 miles of the West Pennine Moors, and today’s walk covered a 6-1/2mi section of it.

Diary 2012 – Week 14

I had a short walk along Georges Lane with my dogs this afternoon, starting from the edge of Wilderswood and walking as far as the Pigeon Tower, then retracing our steps but with a slight detour to pass by the Japanese Gardens.

Diary 2012 – Week 13

I had ideal walking conditions for this afternoon’s walk across Smithills Moor following the old Dean Ditch. It was nicely warm, but not too hot, and with a gentle breeze.

Diary 2012 – Week 11

I had a six mile walk on Darwen Moor this afternoon with Brett, Molly and Sam. Our walk took us via Hollinshead Hall and the Witton Weavers Way in a clockwise circular route.

Diary 2012 – Week 10

Well the weather today was much better than yesterday; sunny, warmer and less wind, making for a very pleasant 4-1/2ml stroll around Darwen Moor.

Diary 2012 – Week 09

I hadn’t done this walk for at least six months so I thought it was time for a revisit. The weather has improved as the week has gone on, and this afternoon was bright and sunny – spring can’t be too far away.

Had a 3hr walk with Brett, Molly and Sam along the part of the Witton Weaver’s Way footpath that forms the border between Darwen Moor and Turton Moor.

It was a lovely sunny afternoon with little wind so I decided to take the dogs for a walk over Smithills Moor.

I spent a couple of hours with Brett, Molly and Sam walking on Darwen Moor this afternoon. I would have spent longer but the cold biting wind was giving me a toothache.

Diary 2012 – Week 04

I took the dogs for a 2hr walk on the east side of Winter Hill this afternoon and on the way managed to get a couple of pictures when the sun struggled through the clouds.

First Snow of Winter

We had our first snowfall of the winter today, so I took the dogs out for what would be Molly’s first experience of such conditions. Having parked the car not far from Rivington Hall we spent the afternoon wandering through woods and across fields.
