Diary 2012 – Week 06

I took Brett, Molly and Sam for a gentle 2-1/2hr stroll this afternoon, starting from near Rivington Hall Barn and going up into the Terraced Gardens.

Diary 2012 – Week 04

I took the dogs for a 2hr walk on the east side of Winter Hill this afternoon and on the way managed to get a couple of pictures when the sun struggled through the clouds.

First Snow of Winter

We had our first snowfall of the winter today, so I took the dogs out for what would be Molly’s first experience of such conditions. Having parked the car not far from Rivington Hall we spent the afternoon wandering through woods and across fields.

Diary 2011 – Week 48

In spite of occasional flurries of very cold hail, the weather wasn’t too bad today, so I took Brett, Molly and Sam for a walk on Winter Hill.

Diary 2011 – Week 47

Once again the cloudy sky meant another afternoon of looking in vain for a good landscape photo opportunity. So I decided I would take a picture of a bare tree with the grey sky behind then, when I got back home spend some time having a bit of fun changing the sky to see what came up.

Diary 2011 – Week 46

I went for a stroll this afternoon with my dogs that I hadn’t done for a couple of years, so I thought it was time to do it again. It’s a little under three miles and a nice gentle stroll that encircled Higher Rivington Reservoir.

I was walking across the moors of Winter Hill when I came upon the cairns on top of Two Lads Hill. They reminded me of a story by the late Arthur C Clarke, “The Sentinel” that the film “2001: Space Odessy” was based on.

Diary 2011 – Week 44

I had two and a half hours of strolling across Smithills Moor with my two dogs Brett and Sam this afternoon. We set off from the car park on Winter Hill and strolled via Holdens Farm and Gilligants Farm before taking the old Coal Pit Road onto the moor.

Afternoon Stroll from Garden to Clough

The weather looked like it would be kind to me today (ie: not rain) so I decided to take a stroll through the Terraced Gardens at Rivington then return via a descent through Tigers Clough.

Diary 2011 – Week 41

I had decided to go back to Tigers Clough today to see if there really were three waterfalls but ended up exploring its upper reaches along a path I never knew existed.
