Diary 2012 – Week 02

Sunsets seem to be like buses at the moment, none for ages then three come at once. I must say though that I didn’t expect one today as it was drizzling rain when the dogs and I set off for our afternoon walk through the Terraced Gardens at Rivington.

Diary 2011 – Week 46

I went for a stroll this afternoon with my dogs that I hadn’t done for a couple of years, so I thought it was time to do it again. It’s a little under three miles and a nice gentle stroll that encircled Higher Rivington Reservoir.

Diary 2011 – Week 44

I had two and a half hours of strolling across Smithills Moor with my two dogs Brett and Sam this afternoon. We set off from the car park on Winter Hill and strolled via Holdens Farm and Gilligants Farm before taking the old Coal Pit Road onto the moor.

Diary 2011 – Week 40

It was a nice dry and warm day today, so Brett, Sam and I took a leisurely stroll up to the Terraced Gardens in Rivington.

Rivington to Anglezarke and Back

With the weather decidedly damp it was a day for keeping to the low terrain, so the dogs and I took a stroll from Rivington to Anglezarke Reservoir and back, taking in paths I hadn’t been on for some time.

Rivington to Hempshaws via Old Rachels

A walk of just under six miles on a warm and sunny July afternoon, from Rivington to Lead Mines Clough across rough pasture land and passing three farm ruins. I’ve been around these paths many times previously but never in an anticlockwise direction, so I thought it would at least make the views a little different.

Diary 2011 – Week 18

I took a walk through Wilderswood today, not having been there for some months and curious to see how the woods looked after the mass tree felling operation last February and March.

Diary 2011 – Week 14

I had a very gentle two miles stroll with my friend JohnB (plus my two dogs Brett and Sam and our temporary addition Daisy) and on the way managed to find a couple of potential new pictures.

Diary 2011 – Week 13

I took my dogs for a stroll around by Burnt Edge this afternoon, and although we didn’t actually cover much ground we did manage to get through two hours of ball playing. As with Monday’s stroll in this area I took a few pictures of the tree near the old stone wall, but this time I tried it from a couple of different vantage points.

Last Walk of 2010

For the last walk of 2010 we had a gentle four miles stroll up to the Pigeon Tower, then returned through part of the Terraced Gardens.

Take Me to the Tower

Today we spent the aftenoon strolling around the Terraced Gardens in Rivington, part of the former estate of the late Lord Leverhulme. There are many permutations of routes around the gardens, but we only had time to visit a small selection.
