Autumn Images of 2011

This is a short selection of pictures that I took during my walks in September and October that didn’t make it into any of my posts but which nevertheless I thought you might like to see.

Afternoon Stroll from Garden to Clough

The weather looked like it would be kind to me today (ie: not rain) so I decided to take a stroll through the Terraced Gardens at Rivington then return via a descent through Tigers Clough.

Diary 2011 – Week 41

I had decided to go back to Tigers Clough today to see if there really were three waterfalls but ended up exploring its upper reaches along a path I never knew existed.

Diary 2011 – Week 40

It was a nice dry and warm day today, so Brett, Sam and I took a leisurely stroll up to the Terraced Gardens in Rivington.

Diary 2011 – Week 34

I had a great afternoon meandering around old and new paths in Rivington today. The first part was spent wandering around Tigers Clough taking pictures of the waterfall and the River Douglas.

Diary 2011 – Week 13

I took my dogs for a stroll around by Burnt Edge this afternoon, and although we didn’t actually cover much ground we did manage to get through two hours of ball playing. As with Monday’s stroll in this area I took a few pictures of the tree near the old stone wall, but this time I tried it from a couple of different vantage points.

From Wilderswood to Noon Hill

A six mile walk on a cold and windy afternoon, taking in wild moorland and some old cobbled roads, plus ancient cairns, farm ruins and the vestiges of long forgotten coal mines.

Moorland Meanderings

There are many paths to stroll along on and around Winter Hill. Some are shown on the Ordnance Survey maps, some are not. Today’s walk covered some of each as Brett, Sam and I spent a very enjoyable five miles and four hours of moorland meanderings.

Winter Hill Panoramas

On some of my more recent walks on Winter Hill I’ve been taking panoramic videos, so I thought you might like to see them. If you wonder what the strange noises are on the sountracks it’s my heavy breathing. As with most of my pictures, Brett and Sam take every opportunity to hog the camera.

Tigers Clough Revisited

Now that the snow had gone I thought it might be a good time to revisit Tigers Clough. I was hoping that the melting snow and the recent rain had provided plenty of water to rush over the waterfall.

A Stroll Around Scholes Bank

After a leisurely lunch at my local cafe I decided to brave to persistent drizzle and take the dogs for a walk and a ball game. However, by way of a change, I decided not to walk up to the meadows in Rivington but to stay a little closer to home. So we went to an area about a 1/4ml away that is known locally as Scholes Bank.
