Diary 2012 – Week 09

I hadn’t done this walk for at least six months so I thought it was time for a revisit. The weather has improved as the week has gone on, and this afternoon was bright and sunny – spring can’t be too far away.

Diary 2011 – Week 47

Once again the cloudy sky meant another afternoon of looking in vain for a good landscape photo opportunity. So I decided I would take a picture of a bare tree with the grey sky behind then, when I got back home spend some time having a bit of fun changing the sky to see what came up.

Diary 2011 – Week 45

I was walking across the moors of Winter Hill when I came upon the cairns on top of Two Lads Hill. They reminded me of a story by the late Arthur C Clarke, “The Sentinel” that the film “2001: Space Odessy” was based on.

Autumn Images of 2011

This is a short selection of pictures that I took during my walks in September and October that didn’t make it into any of my posts but which nevertheless I thought you might like to see.

Afternoon Stroll from Garden to Clough

The weather looked like it would be kind to me today (ie: not rain) so I decided to take a stroll through the Terraced Gardens at Rivington then return via a descent through Tigers Clough.

Winter Hill and Smithills Moor

This was an 8 miles walk on a sunny but extremely windy afternoon, during which I traversed a great deal of moorland and visited a remote reservoir that once fed one of the local mills in a bygone age.

Diary 2011 – Week 13

I took my dogs for a stroll around by Burnt Edge this afternoon, and although we didn’t actually cover much ground we did manage to get through two hours of ball playing. As with Monday’s stroll in this area I took a few pictures of the tree near the old stone wall, but this time I tried it from a couple of different vantage points.

A Walk Through History

Today’s route was something of a walk through history, visiting an ancient monument to a bygone age and passing close by several derelict farms that gave echos of a hard life long since passed into memory.

Diary 2011 – Week 8

It was a nice sunny day today so I decided to repeat last Thursday’s walk from Rivington to Lead Mines Clough at Anglezarke. Starting near Rivington Green the walk went past Yarrow Reservoir then into and around Lead Mines Clough.

Photo Art

From time to time I like to spend a little time with Photoshop to produce simulated art from some of my pictures taken during various walks. I present some of them here for you to stroll through, hope you like them.

Diary 2011 – Week 3

Brett and Sam have been looking rather scruffy of late, mainly the result of wading into too many muddy pools that they come across during our walks. I know they’re just being dogs but I decided it was time they were spruced up a little.
