Following the Witton Weavers Way
The Witton Weavers Way is an old packhorse route that traverses about 33 miles of the West Pennine Moors, and today’s walk covered a 6-1/2mi section of it.
Diary 2012 – Week 11
I had a six mile walk on Darwen Moor this afternoon with Brett, Molly and Sam. Our walk took us via Hollinshead Hall and the Witton Weavers Way in a clockwise circular route.
Diary 2012 – Week 10
Well the weather today was much better than yesterday; sunny, warmer and less wind, making for a very pleasant 4-1/2ml stroll around Darwen Moor.
Diary 2012 – Week 08
Had a 3hr walk with Brett, Molly and Sam along the part of the Witton Weaver’s Way footpath that forms the border between Darwen Moor and Turton Moor.

It was a lovely sunny afternoon with little wind so I decided to take the dogs for a walk over Smithills Moor.

I spent a couple of hours with Brett, Molly and Sam walking on Darwen Moor this afternoon. I would have spent longer but the cold biting wind was giving me a toothache.
To Darwen Tower the Long Way Round
I’ve been to Darwen Tower on numerous other occasions, usually via a straightforward route. This time I decided to approach it by a more round about way.
Circuit of Turton Moor
This was a walk I found in an excellent book by Paul Hannon called “West Pennine Moors”, and provided a great afternoon’s walking over wild moorland and discovering more ruined farms.
Diary 2011 – Week 22
I went for a short walk today with my friend JohnB that turned out to be a very pleasant and sunny stroll around a little bit of countryside I hadn’t seen before.
Wet Walk to Hollinshead Hall
I hadn’t been to the woods near the village of Tockholes for some months, so I decided it was about time to remedy things. Unfortunately I choose a rather wet afternoon, just as well I had my waterproofs with me.
