A Lovely Day For a Walk

The weather was great for walking today, cold but dry and sunny, so we had a very pleasant five miles stroll taking in moorland and woodland on the way.

Take Me to the Tower

Today we spent the aftenoon strolling around the Terraced Gardens in Rivington, part of the former estate of the late Lord Leverhulme. There are many permutations of routes around the gardens, but we only had time to visit a small selection.

A Visit to Roscow’s Tenement Clough

Today’s walk was very short, only two miles, but it was two hours pleasantly spent visiting a small and secluded clough, complete with babbling brook and lots of autumn leaves.

Great Hill via Dean Black Brook

Today John and I had a walk up onto Great Hill via the very picturesque Dean Black Brook. Although the path alongside the brook is not shown on the Ordnance Survey map, and in places needs some care in negotiating, it’s well worth a look.

Moorland Meanderings

There are many paths to stroll along on and around Winter Hill. Some are shown on the Ordnance Survey maps, some are not. Today’s walk covered some of each as Brett, Sam and I spent a very enjoyable five miles and four hours of moorland meanderings.

To Great Hill and Round Loaf

Today my friend John and I decided to take the dogs for a stroll across Anglezarke Moor to visit Great Hill and the Neolithic burial mound called Round Loaf. The hot conditions made it hard work at times for me, but the excellent views made it well worth the effort.

Peaceful Places

One of the things I like about country walking is you need little excuse to stop and admire the view. This little collection shows some of the peaceful places I’ve found on my many rambles.

Winter Hill Panoramas

On some of my more recent walks on Winter Hill I’ve been taking panoramic videos, so I thought you might like to see them. If you wonder what the strange noises are on the sountracks it’s my heavy breathing. As with most of my pictures, Brett and Sam take every opportunity to hog the camera.

Searching for More Waterfalls in Lead Mines Clough

My original intention was to walk up Lead Mines Clough and then onto Anglezarke Moor, with the destination being the Bronze Age burial mound. Instead I went in search of more waterfalls in the clough. The result was an interesting walk with, for me, a rather scary moment.

Finding the Waterfall in Lead Mines Clough

Some time ago I saw a picture of a waterfall in Lead Mines Clough, so today I took the dogs for a walk there to see if I could find it. Whilst I’m not certain I found what I was looking for, it was nevertheless a very enjoyable walk.

Exploring More of Wilderswood

Today’s walk was a brief visit to Wilderswood, this time to explore a little path I had noticed on a previous visit. It travels uphill alongside a small stream that makes its way off Rivington Moor.
