Good Intentions
I just love Tescos All Butter Pain au Chocolat. That delicious flaky but stodgy pastry, the melt-in-your-mouth dark chocolate pieces, and the overlaying all-butter taste. Very naughty but very nice. Not so good though if, like me, you are trying to lose some weight. Not a lot mind, just a few pounds. Well 10lb actually. But if, like me, you have very little will power, then trying to walk past the pastry shelves in Tescos without succumbing to temptation is something of an impossibility. The alluring voices of the pastries keep calling, 'Eat me, eat me, you know you want to.' And of course I do, too often for my own good. Well tomorrow I'm going to stop all this nonsense and start eating properly and healthily.
Tomorrow I'm going to get back to what I used to do a couple or so years back, when I ate more salads and did a great deal more walking. Now I really do like salads, I like all the things you can put in them and I like sitting in my armchair slowly munching my way through a large plateful. And I really do enjoy a good country walk, especially in the hills of the Pennines, that long chain of hills and dales that is the backbone of England. But of late my underlying laziness has got the better of me and I've reverted to my old ways of too many stodgy meals and not enough exercise. Hence I am now 10lb too heavy and am constantly reminded of it by my trouser belt buckle. It's two notches past where it used to be and nags at my conscience every morning when I put my trousers on. 'This really won't do, you know.' it grumbles at me, 'You really must get up off your fat backside and take those dogs for longer walks. And start eating some proper food. You know it makes sense.'
OK, tomorrow sees a new dawn, and the beginning of a slimmer - and healthier -me.
Can I do it?
Will I do it?
Watch this space.
