Pleasant walks with camera and three dogs

Diary 2012 – Week 02

January 18 2012 - Sunset Over Rivington

Sunsets seem to be like buses at the moment, none for ages then three come at once. I must say though that I didn't expect one today as it was drizzling rain when the dogs and I set off for our afternoon walk through the Terraced Gardens at Rivington. In fact we were only about 1/4ml from the car when I spotted this one as we walked along the path from Rivington High School towards Rivington Hall Barn. With not much time to spare before the sun finally set for the day I had to try to find something to give foreground interest. I had to trek about 250yd across a rough pasture to get to a line of trees, then select one to give a suitable effect. Fortunately this one caught my eye.

If you look very carefully at the picture you night just be able to see St Catherine's Church in Blackrod, through the branches of the tree left of centre on the horizon.

January 17 2012 - Sunset on Winter Hill

Got this shot of tonight's sunset whilst heading towards Two Lads Hill on Winter Hill. It shows Rivington Pike Tower with Lower Rivington Reservoir behind. And there's just a hint of a temperature inversion in the background.

January 15 2012 - St Catherine's in the Sunset

Had a 2-1/2hr walk around Winter Hill this afternoon with my dogs Brett, Molly and Sam, but didn't see anything photographable that I didn't already have a picture of. However, on the way back home I noticed the setting sun was looking pretty nice so I decided to find somewhere I could take a last minute picture. This is a picture of St Catherine's Church in Blackrod, viewed from the road alongside Lower Rivington Reservoir.
