Pleasant walks with camera and three dogs

Diary 2011 – Week 46

November 23 2011 - Gentle Afternoon Stroll

I went for a stroll this afternoon with my dogs that I hadn't done for a couple of years, so thought it was time to do it again. It's a little under three miles and a nice gentle stroll, starting at Rivington Green and following a bridleway along the west side of Rivington Reservoir, to arrive at Knowsley Lane which is the embankment between Rivington and Anglzarke Reservoirs. The return was via a public footpath along the eastern side of Rivington Reservoir, and included a lovely diversion beside a small stream, to arrive back at Rivington Green. The picture total was very low, only three in fact, but the enjoyment quotient was very high.

After setting off from near Rivington Green the dogs and I walked along Horobin Lane and then at the end of the reservoir embankment turned right to follow a bridleway along the western side of Higher Rivington Reservoir. Nearing the end of the lane we passed by a large old house called The Street. There is some interesting information about its history on Wikipedia.

Just a few yards further on we passed by two more old houses.

Almost at the end of our walk, and only a couple of hundred yards short of Rivington Green I took this picture of the setting sun through the trees at the side of the field we were walking through.

November 21 2011 - Trees in the Sunset

The hill fog was considerably less today, though quite variable in its density. Every few minutes things would appear and disappear as the fog rolled by, but occassionally the sun tried to break through. As the sun began to approach the horizon it managed to break through long enough for me to get this shot.

The picture was taken where the path along the top of Montcliffe Quarry meets the one coming up from Marchmoor Lane.
