Exploring More of Wilderswood

Today’s walk was a brief visit to Wilderswood, this time to explore a little path I had noticed on a previous visit. So I parked the car in the small car park on Georges Lane at the edge of the woods, then the dogs and I set off along the first path on the right.
After passing by the ruins of Rockhaven Castle we arrived at the top of the path where it rejoins Georges Lane.
Just before reaching the stile onto Georges Lane we took the dirt path that went off sharp left to descend into the Wilderswood clough.
At the bottom of the path we arrived at a stile that gave access to a stone bridge. The path I was interested in on this visit went to the left side of the bridge parapet shown in the right of the picture.
This picture gives a view looking upstream from the bridge parapet. It’s interesting to note that the stream runs in a stone built culvert that comes down off Rivington Moor and travels the length of the Wilderswood.
This picture shows where the stream flows under the stone bridge. The path travels all the way up to Georges Lane on the left hand side of the stream and is a little overgrown in places.
As you can see here, the path is quite indistinct in places, and you need to be careful where you place your feet so that you don’t trip over any trailing (and thorny) branches.
A quick glance behind gives an excellent view of this lovely little clough. I’m told that people come here picking whimberries in the autumn.
Eventually we reached the point where the stream came from underneath Georges Lane.
We continued climbing off to the left of the stream and soon came up close to Georges Lane, not far from a stile that leads back onto the lane. After taking this picture the dogs and I returned down the path and continued our meander around Wilderswood. I haven’t included any pictures from the rest of the walk because you may view some in a previous post.
