Winter Hill Panoramas

Posted Under » Rivington

On some of my more recent walks on Winter Hill I’ve been taking panoramic videos, so I thought you might like to see them. If you wonder what the strange noises are on the sountracks it’s my heavy breathing. As with most of my pictures, Brett and Sam take every opportunity to hog the camera.

Tigers Clough Revisited

Posted Under » Rivington

Now that the snow had gone I thought it might be a good time to revisit Tigers Clough. I was hoping that the melting snow and the recent rain had provided plenty of water to rush over the waterfall.

Top of the Waterfall

Posted Under » Rivington

Today I spent another three hours with the dogs in the Terraced Gardens at Rivington, including finding the top of the tiered waterfall I went looking for last Wednesday. It’s all pretty overgrown now but it must have looked really good when it was constructed in the 1920’s.

In Search of a Waterfall

Posted Under » Rivington

I first saw this waterfall in May 2004 on one of my first walks around the Terraced Gardens at Rivington when there was little water flowing. Now, with the constant rain of the past few weeks there is plenty of water, so I thought I’d pay the waterfall another visit.

Posted Under » Rivington

Well, whatever the season and whatever the weather my two dogs still need their walks, so it was off for a paddle around some of the woods and meadows of Rivington.

Click on images to see larger versions. The weather has been vile this past couple of days, and I’m not one for setting off on a walk in heavy rain, so I thought I’d while away a few hours by putting together some of the pictures I have of Rivingon and the surrounding area so [...]

Tigers Clough Waterfall – The Movie

Posted Under » Rivington

The waterfall in Tiger’s Clough is not a big one but it’s nevertheless quite a picturesque spot where it’s located. It’s in a secluded area off the beaten track in Rivington, and the path to it can be boggy in places, but once there it’s worth the walk.So here are three pictures that I took [...]

Hunting Tigers – Part 3

Posted Under » Rivington

At last I’ve managed to find the waterfall in Tiger’s Clough. As you can see from the picture, there wasn’t a great deal of light for good photographs. So I’m afraid that for the moment you will have to make do with this paltry effort until such time as I can go back there and do things properly.

Hunting Tigers – Part 2

Posted Under » Rivington

Today’s little escapade could well have been subtitled “Two and a Half Hours of Soggy Feet”, for that’s what I got rather than a collection of great pictures. You may remember that on my first attempt to find a waterfall in Tiger’s Clough all I got was the sky falling on me in the shape [...]

Hunting Tigers – Part 1

Posted Under » Rivington

Clough is an unusual word. You may wonder what it has to do with tiger hunting, but continue on dear reader and all will be revealed. In the English language the word clough has many meanings. For example, dictionary.com lists six results from a trawl of its database, but the one that interests me is [...]
