To Darwen Tower the Long Way Round(2)
I’ve been to Darwen Tower on numerous other occasions, usually via a straightforward route. This time I decided to approach it by a more round about way.

A walk of just under six miles on a warm and sunny July afternoon, from Rivington to Lead Mines Clough across rough pasture land and passing three farm ruins. I’ve been around these paths many times previously but never in an anticlockwise direction, so I thought it would at least make the views a little different.
Circuit of Turton Moor
This was a walk I found in an excellent book by Paul Hannon called “West Pennine Moors”, and provided a great afternoon’s walking over wild moorland and discovering more ruined farms.
Ghosts of Haslingden Grane
To paraphrase the football commentators on the TV, this was a walk of two halves. The first part was undertaken on a very hot afternoon that proved rather hotter than I could bear, and the second half took place the following day in what turned into a torrential downpour.
