Today John and I had a walk up onto Great Hill via the very picturesque Dean Black Brook. Although the path alongside the brook is not shown on the Ordnance Survey map, and in places needs some care in negotiating, it’s well worth a look.

The hot conditions made it hard work at times for me, but the excellent views also made it well worth the effort.

Instead I went in search of more waterfalls in the clough. The result was an interesting walk with, for me, a rather scary moment.

We started at the head of the reservoir and kept it in sight for much of the walk, and although the weather didn’t look too promising I’m glad to say the rain held off until I was back home.

After parking the car at the entrance to the clough we walked along the path alongside the River Yarrow that feeds Yarrow reservoir and Anglezarke Reservoir. About 1/4 mile along the clough we climbed up the side of the hill to the memorial pillar that was erected where a Wellington bomber had crashed during the Second World war.
